Simplified bulk product upload feature

We work day in and out to come up with new and simplified features in KartRocket admin panel, here we are with a new product release a simplified version of “bulk product upload”.

Bulk product upload is such a trivial part of managing your website; we thought reducing the effort on this process would save a huge bunch of man hours. The existing 5 step process of bulk upload has been reduced to a single step, where you need to only specify important details and rest settings are set to default.

In the following article, we will explain you every minutest detail associated with the feature.

Please note that this is an add-on feature, the existing advanced bulk upload functionality is also there in the admin panel.

How the new bulk upload process works:

We’ve implemented the below changes in the existing advanced bulk upload process to make it more simple & user-friendly:

  1. Product import sheet has been recreated to include minimal required fields.
  2. Products are imported with default settings stated in the following part of the article.

Fields that can be imported:

  1. SKU
  2. Product Name
  3. Description
  4. Model
  5. Brand
  6. Category
  7. Image
  8. Attribute
  9. Option
  10. Meta Description
  11. Meta Keywords
  12. Meta Title
  13. Product Tags
  14. Subtract Stock
  15. Length
  16. Height
  17. Width
  18. Price
  19. Special Price
  20. Qty
  21. Weight
  22. Tax Class
  23. Sort order
  24. Product Status

Settings that can be defined:

  1. Import file: Here you can upload the csv file that you have created for basic bulk product import
  2. CSV Field Delimiter: Select the type of import file, you can select “,” or “Tab”
  3. Empty store before import: If you want to remove all the previously added products from admin, you can select Yes from the dropdown, else leave it as “No”
  4. New Items: You can select “Add” if you want to add new products that are not previously added, else you can “Skip” these
  5. Existing Items: You can select “Update” if you want to update the existing products, else you can “Skip” these
  6. Items In Store But Not In File: You can “Ignore / Delete / disable” the products that are available in the store but not included in the file that you are going to upload
  7. Identify Existing Products By Matching Field: You can define a unique identifier “SKU/Model” to identify existing products

Product Images Upload:

You can upload the product images in bulk by using Upload image functionality. Simply either click on Browse button and select image and upload or you can simply drag and drop images here.

Default settings & their values: Below is the list of the settings and their default values that we have set for the basic bulk import process.

This will be by default “Yes”, additionally, you can set this at product level by adding 1 for Yes and 0 for No in the basic bulk import sheet

Requires Shipping If you’re selling a digital download product or a service, requires shipping should be disabled, as nothing will be shipped to the customer.

This will be by default “Enabled”, additionally you can set this at product level by adding 1 for Enabled and 0 for Disabled the product in basic bulk product import

Customer Group This is used in defining the special price of thee product. You can define that special price X will be available for a certain customer group.

This will be the default group that you have set in general settings, you can additionally set this at product level by adding customer group id in basic bulk product import

Product import process is in general 2 steps process and these steps are:

I –  To create excel sheet in the Kartrocket specified Format

We’ve specified format to upload products in bulk. Below is the attached upload sheet for basic bulk product sheet for your reference:

This sheet includes 2 worksheets, a.) Basic Import Sample sheet and b.) Import Sheet guide

  1. This worksheet i.e. “Import_Sheet_Guide” is created for reference, you can read the definition, Format to fill the values with examples.
  2. First worksheet “Basic_Import_Sample_Sheet” is a sample data sheet in Kartrocket format, you can edit/update the product data in the sheet.

  1. Please delete this worksheet i.e. “Import_Sheet_Guide” and upload only the first worksheet “Basic_Import_Sample_Sheet” after converting the sheet in Comma Delimited (CSV)/Tab Delimited (TXT) format.

  1. Please don’t change column names (column name’s format in case of attributes and options), else system will not accept the sheet.
  2. Please don’t add / delete any column in the sheet, else system will not accept the sheet. In case you don’t want to fill values in any column, please leave it blank (column name will be available as it is mentioned in the sheet).
  3. Once all the values are filled the sheet is now ready for bulk import.

 

II –  To upload excel sheet using Basic Bulk Product Import

  1. Login to your store admin panel
  2. Navigate to left side panel and click on “Catalog > Import products”
  3. A screen with the simplified fields for bulk import will open up. You can simply click on “Browse” to select the product file.

Note – If case you don’t have the new sheet format, Click on “Download Sample File” button

  1. Once the file has browsed and attached, go ahead and change the default values of the below fields as per your requirement.
  2. Then, click on “Import”

Note – The system will check the columns name for the predefined columns of the sample sheet and the sheet that is uploaded by the user. If the columns match, the upload process starts automatically, else it throws an error message that “Warning: Your headings are not suitable for direct usage please check every column has a unique heading and must be in specified format”.

  1. Once successfully imported, the products would be visible in the front end.
  2. For advanced upload features, you can click on “Advance Product Import” and the existing 5 step bulk import process would open up.

So, now you’re all set to use this feature in your day to day upload activity and decide when you want to go for the advanced import feature and when not.

The best way to ensure this is to offer combo offers tempting prices to the customers.

Boost Sales

The tempting prices that you offer on a combo offer will give the result of increased sales of multiple products at once. Tapping a customer for infrequent products can be tough but can be easily achieved with combo offers.

Sanity check before applying Combo offers

A product should be in only one category. In case a product is in 2 or more categories the discount will apply for the category rule which was added first or based on priority when defined properly.
Specify the priority if applying multiple rules, as it defines which rule needs to be checked first. If 2 rules are valid on the products that are added the cart then the rule with the higher priority would be applied.

Types of Combo offers

There are 3 offers available in our combo offer app these are as follows:
1) Buy X Get Y products free
2) Buy X number of products & Get a freebie
3) Buy Product worth Rs X & Get a freebie

Buy X Get Y products free – It means the customer will get Y number of products free on buying X number products but in cart, there should be X+Y products. Customer will get only Y lowest price products as free.
Buy X number of products & Get a freebie – It means a customer will get a freebie product that will get automatically added to the cart on buying X number of products.
Buy Product worth Rs X & Get a freebie – It means a customer will get a freebie product if their order total becomes equal or greater than Rs. X.

You can apply these offers at the different level as per the requirement:
1) Store Level
2) Category Level
3) Product Level

Store Level – At this level combo offer will apply all over the store.
Category Level – At this level combo offer will apply only to the selected categories, an offer will not apply to un-selected categories.
Product Level – At this level offer will apply only to products that will be added by merchant itself.

You can also define the rule’s priority for these offers accordingly, offers will apply as per the rule priority.
A new setting has been introduced which is defined below:

Setting name: Count Product quantity

What this means is that suppose when we apply a rule i.e. Buy 2 & get a freebie, you now have a setting by which you can decide if you want the customer to get a freebie when he buys 2 quantity of same SKU or he has to buy 2 unique products to get the offer. When the setting is set to Yes, rules will apply even if the customer adds multiple quantities of the same product.

Explanation on how to set-up combo offers

Case1: Buy X and Get Y free

When you want to apply the rule “Buy X and Get Y free” condition. In this case, Buy 2 & Get 1 rule is explained.

Req Settings:

Select Combo offer name “Buy X and Get Y free” and then click on Add Rule
Select Applicable on – Store level
Label field: Merchant can add any name on the label say “Buy 2 Get 1”

– Store level:
For X>Y: It means the merchant will add X value (greater value) in “No of products to be bought” and Y(smaller value) value in “No of a product as freebie”. As in this scenario on buying 2 products customer get 1 free product. The merchant can add any numeric value accordingly.

As shown in the screenshot above we have selected setting Count Product quantity as Yes
The customer will get 1 product free whose price is lowest among 3 products added. The rule will apply only when there are 2 products in the cart. In this case, we have selected 2 quantity of the same SKU & as per rule the price of only 2 products is charged.

When Count Product Quantity is selected as No the SKU’s added in cart should be different for the rule to work and the lowest prices product among the three becomes free.

– Category Level:

– Category box will open when you select the category radio button. You can select particular categories on which you want to give the offer.
– On the cart page, the rule will only apply for selected categories.
– The rule would work in the similar way as defined for store level.

– Product Level:

– To apply any rule on few specific products, select Product level in Applicable On.
– In Product, Sku box merchant can add any number of SKU’s separated by commas (,).
Customer will get the free product only on buying these selected SKU’s.

Important: Activate from date/to date – If you want that the offer should apply for the limited time period then you must add the appropriate dates in it.
The **same condition for X X X=Y: As per this condition merchant will add equal values in “Product to be bought” & in “Products as free”. Like on buying 1 get 1 product free having lowest price or same value.

Case2: Buy X & get a Freebie

When you want to sell the products with offer “Buy X & get a Freebie”. In this case on buying 2 products customer should get the SKU defined in the rule as the freebie.

Req Settings

– Store Level:

Please see the screenshot for settings

**Enter freebie product SKU, which you want to give as free. As per this rule, freebie product will automatically add into the cart as the condition meet. The condition, in this case, is that on buying any 2 products from this store customer will get the mentioned SKU as the freebie.
*Since Count Product Quantity is Yes, even if the customer adds any product with 2 quantity this offer will apply.

– Category Level:

Please refer the below screenshot for the settings of this rule. As per the rule, the offer will apply only to Featured Products category.

*** The SKU’s separated by ‘,’must be entered in Product SKU fields, as per the defined rule the offer will apply when any 2 SKU’s from the ones entered in this field are added to cart. So, as per the rule freebie is added to the cart directly.

Case3: Buy product worth Rs X & get a Freebie

When you want to sell the products with offer “Buy product worth Rs X & get a Freebie” If you want that the customer must get a freebie product as order total become equal or greater than Rs 500 value.

– Store level:

Please see screenshot below to see how to configure this rule. In this case the customer will get the freebie product when he adds the products to cart worth Rs 500.

**Enter any value in the Order total field on or above which merchant wants to provide the offer.

– Category Level:

In this case, the rule is applied only to the selected category.

Note: This feature works for all registered or unregistered customer. As the condition met offer automatically gets applied as per the priority defined.

Step-by-step process to activate Combo Offers feature

• Log in to your Kartrocket account by entering your User ID and Password.
• On the left panel, click on the Marketing tab.
• Under the Marketing Tab, select the ‘convert traffic’ option.

• Four top sections will appear from where you’ll have to select combo offers.

• After, this please choose the type you want to run from the drop-down list that appears.

• First Combo offer is Buy X and Get Y products free. Second Combo offer is Buy X number of products and gets a freebie and the Third Combo offer is Buy Products worth Rs. X and get a freebie. You can select either one of these and press on Add Rule. Once done click on Save and activate your Combo Offer, as desired.
• Follow the steps explained in the previous section to do the desired setting of the selected offer.

By engaging customers through these combo offers on your Ecommerce website, you can ensure that they feel satisfied and rewarding to shop with you. You can even beat your rivals in the process if your customers, in fact, fell inclined towards your Website and not theirs. Combo offers are also seen as a necessary staple item retaining and adding customers and are actively being brought into use by major Websites across the globe. Customise the default sorting of products on category pages 

We’ve introduced a new feature wherein you can specify the sort order of products displayed in category pages. Sorting refers the manner in which the products are displayed, earlier this was set to default.

With this feature, we give you more flexibility to manage your category pages. To use this feature, you first need to install Choose Sort by options app on your store, if not already done.

You can select the desired sort option in the settings of the “Choose Sort By Options” app. Once selected it would be visible on the front end in the format you specified.

Here’s how you can use this feature:

  1. Click here, and enter your registered email ID

  1. You will be redirected to the store login page associated with the email, enter the password & click on submit.

  1. Once you’re logged in to your store, click on App in the left side of the menu.

  1. On the right side, you will see the list of available apps.
  1. Search for Choose Sort By Options app.

  1. Click on “Install”, if the app is not installed on your store.

  1. The changes would change the default sorting of the products in your front-end store.

Product Enhancements | Auto hide out of stock products

We’re all bucked up to make our platform simpler, and user-friendly, here’s a list of the major enhancements that went LIVE recently:

1. Navigational Changes in web pages’ section

In a move to simplify the left menu options, we’ve clubbed “add web page” and “manage web page” setting together. Now we only have one main section called as Web Pages. This will by default open all the fields associated with “manage web pages”, to add a page, you can click on “add pages” button on the top right of this section.

2. Auto hide “Out of stock products”

Auto hide sold out products setting lets you hide/unhide out of stock from your website. It is an automated process, so when the product comes back in stock it would start showing up again.

If you have set “Auto Hide Sold out products” setting from general setting as Yes, then “Out of stock” products would neither be displayed in product groupings nor in the category listing.This is an enhancement to the existing feature, earlier out of stock products were visible in the product grouping even if the setting was selected as “Yes”.

Follow the below steps to activate it on your store:

Step 1: Login to your admin panel
Step 2: Navigate to Settings > General Setting
Step 3: Look for “Auto Hide Sold Out Products” setting, toggle the status ON or OFF to activate or deactivate the feature.

P.S – If the setting is “ON”, Out of Stock Product don’t get displayed on the website

3. Pincode field disabled for UAE/Dubai

As we all know that for shipping products in Saudi Arabia & UAE, pincode is not the mandatory requirement in the address. So, to ease the checkout process for customers, we’ve disabled pincode field when the selected country is either Dubai or Saudi Arabia. For rest of the countries, it would be enabled and would function in the same manner.

In the following article, we will explain you every minutest detail associated with these features.

If you are using the older version of the banner slideshow, you need to disable that first and then enable the new module.

Here are the steps to disable the current module:

  1. Go to admin panel Store design > Theme Widgets > Image and Text Slider

4. Click on Slideshow link

Now you can enable the new module by following below steps

To upload banners on the website, follow these simple steps listed below:

  1. In the admin panel left menu under Store Design click on Banner Slideshow link
  2. Now, to enable the widget to show in the front-end switch ON the status

3. In this widget, you will find two tabs:

  • Add your Banners – This section is to upload the banner images, hyperlink them, add image alt text and to decide the sort order.
  • Banner Slideshow Settings – This section has the additional configuration settings that can be provided on the slideshow.

Let’s understand “Add your banner” & “Banner Slideshow settings” section in detail now

Add Your Banner

  1. On clicking on the plus icon, it will give you the facility to upload the image.
  2. Click on BROWSE button to upload the Banner Image or simply drop the banner image on the DROP HERE text.

5. Enter the alternative r the image in Image Alt Text column.

6. Define the sort order which defines the position of the banner in the slideshow.

7. Click on plus icon to add more banners and repeat the above steps.

8. Click on Save to save the images.

Banner Slideshow Settings –

Here you can do following configurations on the slideshow:

  1. Auto Play – If you want the slideshow to play automatically, then you can select the checkbox.
  2. Transition – You can select from the dropdown, the type of transition (animation) you require on the slideshow.
  3. Banner Transition Time – The delay that you require between each banner can be set here. This is mentioned in seconds.
  4. Navigator Type – You can select the navigator type for the navigation between the banners.
  5. To set the position of the banners in the slideshow, you can simply drag & drop them.
  6. Don’t forget to save the settings by Clicking on the Save icon!!
  7. Once the above steps are completed successfully, the uploaded banner would be visible in the front end and can simply be managed via the above-discussed back end functionality.
